Really enjoyed this novel by Jack Polo. Kept the pulse racing with all the action and tension. We’re introduced to Cole Tran & Mollie Simmons – two detectives with a previous love interest who now have overcome the awkwardness of the breakup to continue working together. Mollie has found love in the form of another woman, whilst Cole is still heartbroken from the breakup of his last girlfriend Amelie.

Cole & Mollie are tasked with the murder case of Zoey Martine – world famous movie star. Zoey was driving back to work with $250,000 worth of dresses until she was gunned down by two Russian mobsters Igor & Vladimir. They were seeking $250,000 in cash but have gotten their wires completely crossed. Cole & Mollie now must track down the suspects and follow the trail which leads them all over the city before chasing the Russians into Canada as they try to escape. There was quite a lot of background into the suspects which I enjoyed as it provided reasoning behind their madness and how such tragedy could occur.

Cole & Mollie make a good detective team and rely on each other’s instincts to carry them through with the investigation much to the annoyance of their boss and Mayor. Would definitely recommend, a fun read with a lot of action.

Ahh… personal betrayal between two detectives now forced to work together again makes for a strange and toxic interaction as they embark on a case involving a Russian serial killer. Both the plot and the characters make this book a pure, pulse-pounding foray into the madness of those willing to kill for…pleasure?? Recommended.

Our couple has to overcome their past, failed, relationship to catch a Russian mob killer.

This is as much as action adventure book as a cop story. There is a bit of a whodunnit, but even more of a how does our couple stop them. There is plenty of action as well as some sexy action on the side which combines to produce an easy to read and very enjoyable story.

My favorite this was the characters. I loved their personalities and they had enough depth to them to make them feel real. Overall, a very enjoyable read.

Highly recommended.

A psychotic assassin with links to the Russian mafia is getting away with bloody murder – and the detectives who might just be able to stop him can barely bring themselves to trust each other. There’s no love lost any longer between Trane and Simmons, not after betrayal and a bitter break-up. But if they’re going to stop this ruthless killer, and keep themselves safe, then they have to overcome their animosity – and outwit a hardened hitman.

THE PARTNERS is a respectable entry into the thriller genre, with a fast-paced storyline and a solid cast of characters. Told with a cinematic flair, it’s an entertaining, tense ride into a world of lavish criminals and intrigue.

For detectives Cole Trane and Mollie Simmons, high-profile murders don’t usually make up their relatively quiet caseload. Their idyllic seaside city full of multi-million dollar homes, socialites, and wealthy businessmen is rocked by tragedy when an internationally-famous movie star is gunned down during a botched robbery. Determined to seek justice for the beloved actress, Cole and Mollie follow the killer’s trail as he leaves behind more victims in his attempt to escape. Their sleuthing soon uncovers a criminal network with ties to the Russian mob, shady business deals, and deadly assassins—putting themselves in the crosshairs. While Cole grapples with their romantic past, he and Mollie’s close partnership may be the only thing strong enough to stop a ruthless killer.

Jack Polo’s crime thriller THE PARTNERS reads like a screenplay—action-packed car chases, vicious shootouts, and a band of grim-looking assassins with thick Russian accents and two detectives in pursuit. Short, punchy chapters lend themselves well to the story’s brisk pace, bursting with rapid-fire dialogue and snippets of humor. The narrative moves swiftly, sometimes too much, though Polo has a deft hand with scene transitions and cliffhangers to ramp up the tension where it counts and keep the audience in suspense. The novel shifts between third person points of view and offers perspectives not just from Cole and Mollie’s end of the investigation, but from the killers and the sketchy, rich businessmen in the web of this far-reaching crime. These points of view add a level of intrigue to the narrative, detailing a brutal Russian killer’s messy escape while the detectives scramble to catch up.

In this mostly plot-driven tale, THE PARTNERS has quite a collection of interesting characters; Polo manages to make even the most minor of them feel real with a few details and some vivid prose. That’s why it’s a little disappointing that the two main characters, Cole and Mollie, never seem as fleshed out as they could be. Their witty banter and easy partnership is a highlight of the novel, but it feels like the story never spends enough time with them outside of the investigation to really get a sense of who they are. The remnants of their romantic tension simmers on the backburner, thankfully never overpowering the case at the forefront.

THE PARTNERS is a respectable entry into the thriller genre, with a fast-paced storyline and a solid cast of characters. Told with a cinematic flair, it’s an entertaining, tense ride into a world of lavish criminals and intrigue.
